SAT • Annual Essay Prize

An annual prize of £1,000 will be awarded to the author(s) of the peer-reviewed article published in the previous calendar year that in the opinion of the judges has made the strongest contribution to furthering the primary aim of the Shakespearean Authorship Trust:

To seek, and if possible establish,
the truth concerning the authorship
of Shakespeare’s plays and poems.

Nominations for the award of the prize must be made by entering the DOI link to an electronic version of the published journal article in the SAT Essay Prize website by April 23 of the year after the article was published.

Nominated articles will be displayed on the web page until the award of the prize at the SAT’s annual conference in November of the same year.

In the case of multiple authors, the £1,000 prize will be split equally between them.

The Trustees will make their decision by assessing a number of factors including:

  • The quality and originality of the work

  • The impact rating of the journal

  • The impact of the article based on press coverage

  • The impact of the article based on citations and share metrics

Anyone can nominate an essay, including Trustees of the SAT and the author of the article
