The Annual SAT Authorship Conferences
The SAT has organised conferences at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London since 2003. From 2009 to 2021, conferences were in conjunction with Brunel University London. Below are details on our upcoming online conference in 2022, and on our most recent events.

The first heir of my invention
The mystery of the Southampton dedications and the genesis of Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece
This year’s conference is a closer look at Shakespeare’s long poems and the Earl of Southampton, who is claimed to be “Shakespeare’s” patron. There will be an all-day in-person conference and a separate gala event in the evening.

One Hundred Years of the SAT
The Shakespearean Authorship Trust began on November 6, 1922, in London, the first meeting being held at the Pembury Tavern on Amhurst Road in Hackney, London. In celebration of this centenary, a special performance is planned.

Shakespeare seems fascinated by themes of exile, exclusion, and separation from loved ones, repeatedly dramatising outsiders banished from favour. At the same time, many scholars suggest his plays are riddled with insider knowledge of the Elizabethan Court.
