About the venue

The Charterhouse was built in 1371 as a Carthusian Monastery and flourished during the later medieval and early Tudor periods. With the dissolution of the monasteries, the Charterhouse became a mansion for wealthy noblemen and a refuge for royalty. It is where Queen Elizabeth I prepared for her coronation in 1559.
